Notice of Co-option

Notice is hereby given that Osmington Parish Council intends to co-opt a member to fill the vacancy that exists in the office of Councillor.

Expressions of interest are being sought from members of the public who meet the following qualifications and are interested in representing their community on the aforementioned parish council. You must meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Registered as a local government elector for the area named above; or
  • During the whole of the last 12 months occupied as owner or tenant, land or other premises in the parish named above; or
  • Your principal or only place of work during the last 12 months has been in the parish named above; or
  • You have during the whole of the last 12 months resided in the parish or within 4.8 km (3 miles) of it; and
  • Not be disqualified from holding office by reason of any disqualification set out in Section 80 of the Local Government Act 1972, or any decision made in Section 79 of the Local Government Act 2000 (1).

If you wish to be considered for co-option for the vacant seat, please submit a written request (email is acceptable) outlining your name, address and contact details, reasons you wish to become a councillor and any skills, experience or interests that you can bring to the role.

Applications must be received by 31st August 2026. The co-option will then be considered at the council meeting to be held on 7th September 2026. Applicants will be given 5 minutes to speak briefly in support of their application.
