Overview

Riston Overview

Long Riston Playing Field Committee is a registered charity ( charity number 523268) that manages and maintains the village playing field which includes a range of play and sport facilities. Our aim is to promote healthy life styles through play and sport.

Our facilities

Playing Field

The playing field has one full size football pitch and space for 2 junior pitches. Skirlaugh AFC currently use and help us to maintain the main pitch.

The field is used by the village primary school for sport and play.

In the past several junior Long Riston teams used the field and this is something that we would like to see develop again. If you are a parent with an interest in developing a team and using the facilities please email the PFC.

Changing Pavilion

The changing pavilion contains 2 large changing rooms, team showers, referee’s changing room, kitchen and storeroom. The pavilion was funded by a £110 000 grant from the Football Foundation.

The pavilion is used by local football teams, Long Riston Tennis Club and by a group of residents who use the courts for social tennis throughout the year.

The pavilion and football pitch are dedicated to the memory of Andy Martin. Andy was a former resident of Long Riston and a keen local sportsman and sports coach.

The pavilion and football playing field can be hired by sports clubs, play groups or local residents. Email the PFC for details.

Tennis courts

The 3 all weather tennis courts were funded by a £60 000 WREN landfill tax credits grant.

The courts are free to use throughout the year.

Long Riston Tennis Club help maintain the courts and use them during tennis season on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings.

There is also a thriving group of villagers who use the courts for social tennis on Wednesdays and Saturdays throughout the year.

In 2023 the PFC and Long Riston Tennis Club raised £6100 to have the courts refurbished. This money was raised via a crowdfunding campaign and a £2000 grant from Sport England.

Multi Games Area MUGA

The all weather surfaced multi games area is used for general play, football and basketball. It is open to public use and is used by Long Riston Primary School.

The MUGA was funded by commuted sum money from previous housing developments in the village.

We are currently fund raising for two 5 a side goals for the MUGA. See the links below if you would like to support us in this project.

Play Park

The new play park was installed in 2023 after a fantastic community fund raising campaign by the PFC. Twenty two successful grant applications raised £104 000. Community fund raising raised a further £31 000. This helped us to provide 14 pieces of play equipment, new safety surfaces, a 75 metre fence and a 50 metre access path.

We have recently raised a further £2500 to add two final pieces of equipment which we hope to installed in December 2023.

Toddler Area

After a period being unused the toddler area next to the village hall was cleaned by the PFC in 2023 and is now used by the village mother and toddler group during the summer as an outdoor play area.

How to support the PFC

All the village play and sport facilities cost money to maintain. Whilst the village school makes a financial contribution it does not cover our annual maintenance costs. As such we have to fund raise to keep our facilities maintained.

You can help us in our work by making a direct donation to the PFC. Our bank details are:
