2017 Season Summary

Saltburn Bowls Club - 2017 summary

The bowling green opened again for members on Tuesday 11th April.

The annual Saltburn Open Pairs competition took place over the weekend of 29th and 30th April.  Details of the winners and individual match results are available in the 2017 Open Pairs report.

Weekly coaching sessions for new members wishing to learn to bowls started at 2pm on Tuesday 2nd May, members of the public, as well as members of U3A, came along, payed a small fee and received advice on the etiquette of bowls as well as practical tuition. The equipment needed was be provided, you only needed to bring along suitable flat shoes that would not damage the greens.

Club competitions continued throughout the season as our members were pitted against each other hoping to make the finals weekend in early September.

The friendly against Mulgrave was held on Saturday 1st of July when we had a lovely day meeting friends and colleagues at Saltburn.

The Steve Duck trophy for our members took place on Saturday 8th July, with Graham Russell's team beating that of June Robinson in a closely contested final.

The friendly game against Castleton was held on Saturday 22nd July, yet another glorious day of sunshine emerged after rain threats in the morning, once again thanks to all those who helped to prepare the greens and competition areas as well as the wonderful food. All in all another thoroughly enjoyable day.

Unfortunately the planned Yorkshire Patrons day on 6th August has had to be cancelled being unable to field full teams.

Our final friendly was against Hutton Rudby on Saturday 26th August, once again the weather held and a great day was had by all

The Mike Hadlett Trophy was won by Rita Beadle in some very close matches, and our annual BBQ was held later in the day on Sunday 27th August. Thanks again to Nash, Julie, Jade and Mick for providing a feast for us all and to Derek for organising the  competition.

Finals day for the club competitions was held on Saturday 2nd September when the various competition finals were contested. Winners and runners up can be seen in the CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP section 2017 sub tab and also in the 2017 Presentation Evening section.

This years AGM was held in the clubhouse at 8:15 pm on Monday 25th September when the new committee was elected.

The greens closed on Saturday 30th September, there is now a winter maintenance plan in place to treat the green and our new storage shed was delivered and erected in early October.

Our presentation evening was held on Saturday 7th October at Saltburn Cricket Club, Platinum provided the entertainment and a pie and pea supper was provided by Marske Butchers, tickets were priced £6.00 each.
