MP Nadhim Zahawi visits Sambourne.
On Friday 21st July 2023 members of the Parish Council met up with our local MP Nadhim Zahawi. We discussed a number of things, but the main areas of discussion and seeking his help, was traffic in the village and possible remedies to help (noting that this is an area problem, Studley chaos is pushing traffic into Sambourne). The second topic, the increased levels of fly tipping and the lack of prosecutions, with the need to change how evidence can be gathered so that district councils can make successful prosecutions. Without people being caught and improved access to council tipping sites the problem will never be resolved. We appreciate him coming out to Sambourne to hear about our concerns and he took keen interest in some of the solutions we suggested.

Parish Council Elections
Are you passionate about making a difference to your local communities in Sambourne Parish? If the answer is yes, why not think about standing as a Parish Councillor?
Parish Council elections are held every four years and the next one is due in May 2023. There are five Councillor seats available in total, three in Sambourne South and two in Sambourne North and an election will be held if more candidates come forward than there are seats.
Co-opting a Parish Councillor
Co-option is a way of appointing a Parish Councillor when no election has been called. During a normal four year term, a vacancy comes up when a Councillor resigns, fails to attend Parish Council Meetings for six consecutive months, or passes away. If this happens, Sambourne Parish Council must ask the electorate if they wish for an election to be held. A minimum of ten electors need to respond for an election to go ahead. After fourteen working days with no response from the electorate, we can advertise the post. Anyone who is eligible and interested in being co-opted can then apply. They can also expect to attend an informal interview with up to three of our Parish Councillors and the successful candidate will be co-opted as a Parish Councillor for the rest of the term.
At election time, the rules of co-option are slightly different. If there are seats available, the Parish Council can co-opt Councillors without advertising for up to thirty-five days after the election date.
