Georgian Sandwich and Its World: A Social and Cultural History - Book Launch Report

A sunny afternoon attended the launch of Georgian Sandwich and Its World by Dr Tom Richardson at Spellbound Bookshop.

Dr Richardson was warmly introduced by Sandwich History Society President John Hennessy to an audience of around 30 attendees. John pointed out that Tom had almost single handedly filled the lacuna of Sandwich histories. He also mentioned how good it was to have a bookshop back in Sandwich. The event brought together local residents, SHS members, and the Mayor of Sandwich, Emmet Csuka. Our host was Abigail Worthington, proprietor of Spellbound.

The afternoon reflected exactly what the book captures so well — the richness of Sandwich’s social and cultural life, both past and present. A fitting launch for a work that brings the Georgian town so vividly to life.

Copies of the book are available now at Spellbound, along with other works by Dr Richardson on Sandwich and its environs.

With thanks to everyone who attended and supported the event - especially Mike and Cally Vaile who provided refreshments!
