Sonsbeck 2026 Visit

Members of the Sandwich Twinning Association returned from Sonsbeck after a successful annual visit marked by civic welcomes, cultural outings and long-standing friendship. The SSTA group travelled to the German town from 4th to 7th June 2026, accompanied by Sandwich Town Mayor Emmet Csuka, who joined the team for the visit and celebrations. On arrival, the visitors were welcomed at a town hall reception by Sonsbeck Bürgermeister Nadine and members of the Sonsbeck Twinning Association with their Chairman Jürgen Schönauer. During the stay, the group enjoyed a varied programme, including a visit to the nearby RAF Museum Laarbruch-Weeze — the only RAF museum outside the UK — a tour of the historic Schloss Wissen, and a rain-soaked walk around Sonsbeck. A highlight of the visit was the annual Bat and Trap match, which Sandwich unfortunately lost once again, despite putting up a spirited performance. The trip concluded with a delicious barbecue on the final evening. Members of the Association expressed their sincere thanks to their hosts for their generous hospitality and continued friendship, which has underpinned the twinning relationship for more than 40 years.
