The sport of crown green bowling has featured in Shifnal since at least the 1930s. Until February 1979, the Club was known as the Union Inn Bowling Club, operating from what is now a car park at the rear of Jaspers in Victoria road.
The Club was then renamed Oakengates Bowling Club and moved to Hartshill Recreation Ground
Subsequently, Shifnal Cricket Club provided a plot of land at their ground on Priorslee Road and plans were made to develop this into a new bowling club. This was achieved in 1982, thanks to the efforts of volunteer members who built the clubhouse, prepared the green and in general, laid the foundations for the new club as a section of the Cricket Club. In November 2016 the club was incorporated as a Private Limited Company and operates as a tenant of Shifnal Cricket Club.
In the close season of 2004 a major re-profiling of the green was conducted to lift the crown. This was conducted by a small but dedicated group of members.
