Our September meeting will hear the story of Mea Allan, a war correspondent during World War II.  She interviewed IRA bombmakers and was the only woman to report from Belsen - but she had a secret life.  A story of forbidden love, prejudice and the treasure to be uncovered in archives.  The speaker will be Felicity Goodall, a former journalist, foreign correspondent and presenter - now living locally and her latest book is "Seeking Mea Allan - Fleet Street's Forgotten Pioneer".

On 8th October, in a change to the normal format, we are going to the Cookworthy Museum!  Entrance fee is £4 each and Kathy the Curator will be on hand to give guided tours.  Apart from the usual exhibitions in the old school room, the fabulous costume gallery, Cookworthy Room and interactive section, the special exhibit "Six weeks to go" (the evacuation of parts of the South Hams in readiness for D-Day landings practices) and "The Image and the Place"(photos of Kingsbridge 1939-45) will still be there.  We will meet there at 11 a.m. but please be aware that there are LOTS of steps!  A board will be circulated at our meeting in September for people to sign up to as we need to let the museum know numbers.  If you won't be at the meeting, please let one of the team know.

Everyone is welcome to our meetings - feel free to bring a friend or two!  £4.00 per person to include a raffle ticket.  Please let us know if you have any special dietary requirements: all reasonable requests catered for!                             Lindy
