Job description:

Styrrup with Oldcotes Parish Council

Styrrup with Oldcotes Parish Council covers both Styrrup and Oldcotes villages and are currently seeking a motivated and forward-thinking individual to join our team as Clerk/RFO

Location – Based at home with mandatory attendance of meetings every 6- 8 weeks 7pm – 9pm approx. These occur at both Oldcotes Village Hall and Styrrup Village Hall alternately.

Must be available for meetings with suppliers on occasion and infrequent inspections of the villages.

The role includes

Council Leadership: Preparing agendas, taking accurate minutes, and facilitating Council meetings to ensure effective governance.

Financial Oversight: Managing the Council's budgets, financial records monthly, and reporting, ensuring robust financial health.

Project Coordination: Overseeing and delivering key local projects, ensuring they meet community needs and are completed efficiently.

Asset and Facility Management: Ensuring the village’s facilities and assets are well-maintained, safe, and serving the community effectively.

Management of Staff: Styrrup Village Hall is owned by the council with a part time caretaker to liaise with.

Community Engagement: Being the face of the Council, liaising with residents, local groups, and external organizations.

Requirements

Experience as a Clerk, Deputy Clerk, or in a relevant local government role is preferred.

Strong leadership, communication, administrative and organisational skills

Resilience, professionalism, and the ability to manage complex or sensitive situations

Excellent IT and digital skills – Word/Excel and ideally with a software accounts package knowledge

Finance ability with online Bank access to pay bills, record them and prepare reports to each council meeting.

Budget preparation, to set years expenditure and track spend each month against this.

Knowledge of basic HMRC payroll package and pension laws.

A good understanding of Council governance, statutory compliance, and community engagement

 

CiLCA is desirable (or commitment to achieve within 2 years); degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject welcomed

Salary & Benefits

Salary: Local Government pay scale - depending on experience and qualifications

Laptop will be supplied if necessary
