Potential Closure of Mere Fire Station
The Public Consultation Period is open now, until 15th May 2026.
Public meetings were held in March 2026. There will also be a further public meeting - an online dial-in session for Mere:
- Thursday 23 April: 6pm – 7pm: Click here to dial in
The following links give information about the proposed closure of 8 fire stations in Dorset and Wiltshire, to include Mere.
Please have your say on the survey (link below) but add as much detail as you can about how it will affect you. eg. increased response times, increased Home Insurance premiums.
The underlying funding position, specifically the recent finance settlement received from central Government, does not provide a sufficient level of funding for the Service to continue to operate as it is. You are also encouraged to write to our MP, Dr Andrew Murrison, with your concerns on this.

West Knoyle Playground - Spring Clean!
Thanks to the hard work of George and Louise Davis, not to mention the very generous loan of a pressure washer by Martin Haskett (Martin Haskett Agricultural Contractors Ltd, https://www.facebook.com/MartinHaskettAgriculture/), West Knoyle's playground is now a sparkling clean and welcoming place for children of all ages.
Our thanks to all involved!
