As I'm sure some questions have been raised about the League starting up, especially as the SCL has been changed and does not start until after June 21 (Step 4), here are some thoughts.
Using Bowls England guidance, we think that the WSBL can go ahead. Indeed, the news may come very late in the day, that permissible numbers on the greens can be higher.
As things currently stand only one match could take place at any club. Rinks would need to be separated, a club might play the WSBL on rinks 2, 4 and 6 or 1, 3 & 5. No bowls are to be played on adjoining rinks.
The Step 1 impact on the WSBL is no club can play 6 rinks of Triples, so the early matches when 4 teams might be playing at one club could need addressing.
The WSBL Executive suggest clubs review the first week, the 20th May, as we have done. We suggest the Bridgwater C v Minehead B is switched round, if necessary.
If this is done then at least we know that most of the matches can be played on the 20th and potentially only two need be arranged on other dates, if necessary. These we suggest are North Petherton C vs Taunton Deane C and Taunton Vivary B v Bridgwater A.
Step 2 does start on the 17th May (at the earliest) and could allow for increased numbers, presumably the announcement will be the week before and then we will know the situation for the 20th. So, we suggest just make provision for the above changes, they may not be needed.
As we hope further relaxing will allow two matches to be played on greens, we think this is the best approach; any other solution could need a more complicated change to fixtures.
I hope this is acceptable and hope to see you all playing in the WSBL on the 20th or sometime in that week.
We will add the above scenario for discussion to the EGM Agenda.
Yours
