The Coronation Gate Story

Whixall Social Centre has a tradition of celebrating major events in the UK with an everlasting memorial or display of the occasion.  We have the Queen Elizabeth II's Silver Jubilee entrance gate; the Women's Institute handstitched display for HM Queen Elizabeth's Golden Jubilee; the Millennium Whixall Parish Tile display; Millennium Weather vane; Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee bench and of course the Whixall Social Centre 50th Anniversary bench.

The Whixall Social Centre Committee therefore thought it was appropriate to have something to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III.  From an initial sketch by Committee member Graham Turnbull, to the finished article which is now proudly displayed outside the Social Centre, the pictorial story of the commissioning, manufacture, fitting and unveiling follows:
