ADVANCING YOUR GAME

Opportunities: there are plenty of opportunities to play competitively or to get more involved in the game. 

the leagues

  • Central Mid-Week Bowling (CMBL) – currently 3 teams participate in this league and is open to both men and women. Matches are played against other clubs in the local area, either at home or away. The A team consists of all women whilst the B and C teams are mixed.
  • Chelmer Ladies – two ladies teams is required to  participate in this league and games are played at home and away in the local area.
  • Chelmsford and District League (C&D) – open to men only. Currently 3 teams participate in this league. 

County matches

Unbadged players (men only): entry via the Ashford Cup – 2 consecutive matches for entry into a County game; 4 County matches need to be played to earn an Essex badge.

Unbadged players (men and women): by winning a County competition, you get an Essex badge, as a semi-finalist, you gain one credit.

For experienced and advanced bowlers, there are both county and national competitions which can be entered online. There are also 2 competitions, Wally Ball and inter-group knock out.

  • Ladies Selection – Wendy Harvey, Gill Ellis, Pauline Adams and Sue Wiles

the courses

  • Markers: for those setting out in their bowling career, markers are important during competitive matches and need to be impartial.
  • Coaching: for those who have been around a bit longer, coaching is an ideal way of getting more involved with members and helping others to develop their skills and abilities.
  • Umpires: for experienced bowlers who want to get more involved with the game.
