Short Mat (Winter)

Short Mat Finals Weekend (16th & 17th March 2024)

What a successful weekend this has been!!!

We saw some most impressive and excellent bowling across both days.

It was lovely to see so many keen spectators, constantly showing their appreciation. I am sure all the bowlers taking part would like to thank them for their support.

The weekend started with the Men’s Pairs and resulted in a win for Ken Chapman and Ken Garbutt over Eddie Pratt and Gordon Chapman by 21 points to 8.

This was followed by the Ladies’ Pairs, a close fought game resulting in a win for Ann King and Mags Ferguson over Terri Pratt and Sheila Wingrove by 14 points to 11.

The last game of the day was a family affair between Ken and Gordon Chapman in the Men’s Singles. It was a very close game, tied at 6 all, 12 all and 16 all. The final result was a win for Gordon by 23 points to 16.

Sunday started with the Ladies’ Singles, a really hard-fought game, resulting, after 24 ends, in a win for Pauline Ellis over Ann King by 21 points to 16.

Then came the Mixed Pairs, when Angela Conway and Ken Garbutt beat Jack Beaumont and Linda Apps by 24 points to 9.

The last game of the weekend was the Open Singles, a repeat of the family affair played on Saturday and resulted in another win for Gordon Chapman over Ken Chapman by 25 points to 13.

A special ‘thank you’ to Pauline, Terri and Don for marking the singles games. Thank you to everyone who has given such huge support throughout the short mat season, it has been one of the best seasons ever for enthusiasm, improvement and interest.

A big, big thank you from Pauline, Ken and Nigel.
