AGM MINUTES 2021

WIMBLEDON & DISTRICT BOWLING ASSOCIATION

PRESIDENT: DAISY LEACH

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

TUESDAY 30TH NOVEMBER 2021 AT 8.00PM

HELD AT WANDILEA BOWLING CLUB

.

MINUTES

1.   The President declared the meeting open, at 8pm, and said that the notice convening the

meeting had been sent to all member clubs on 30th October 2021.   Delegates, from member clubs, were in attendance.

2.   Minutes Silence

A minutes silence was observed by the meeting for all members who have passed away in the period since the last AGM which was held in 2019 due to the pandemic.

3.   Opening Address

President Daisy Leach sent her apologies and a message which was read out to the meeting, this was as follows:-

It was an incredibly successful year this year especially off the back of a year off due to COVID.  Seeing clubs rally to fulfil fixtures and competitions was humbling and encouraging as it meant that the 2021 season truly felt like a bowls season.  Having not seen many people over COVID it was so lovely to be able to catch up with so many familiar faces to share a drink and a chat.  Finals weekend was wonderful and the whole format worked really well, many thanks to Nickie for organizing as always.  History was made this year when Lilly Jenkins-Slater became the youngest female winner of a W&D competition at age 13 – as a young female president I am so proud of her and being able to see her achievement.  To everyone who has supported me and the district, thank you.  To the members of Belmont BC, Thank you.  To the members of the W&D committee thank you, without all of you we would not be able to compete in such a wonderful range of competitions.  I hope to see you all at presentation night and thank you all for a wonderful season.

4.   Apologies for Absence

Daisy Leach (Belmont), Andrew Richardson (Southey), Tina Smith (Merton)

5.   Minutes of AGM held on 12th November 2019 (distributed)

No comments – Proposed by Pauline Bond (Mitcham), Seconded by G Jenkins (Wandilea)

6.   Matters Arising

As discussed at the AGM in November 2019 we are actively seeking out a new bank, to open an account with.  It is now intended that we approach Metro Bank.  It has been agreed, by the Committee that Richard Foot in his role as Treasurer and Barry Willingham in his role as Junior Vice President will be signatories on the account.

7.   Correspondence

The only correspondence received was from Carshalton Bowling Club, who applied to become members of the Association, in order to enter the Midweek League. The application was unanimously approved, by the Committee, in light of not having an AGM in 2020, and Carshalton were entered in to Division 2, for the 2021 season.

8.   Hon. Secretary’s Report

Thank you everyone for your support this year, thanks to the other members of the committee for all their hard work this year. Nothing else to report this year.

9.   Hon Treasurer’s Report

The Committee decided that due to the possibility of member clubs struggling financially this year that the Association would waive the 2021 Affiliation and League fees.  Competition fees were still payable’ although entries and fees were been significantly less than previous years, due mainly to clubs struggling to retain members and members being reluctant to take part in many of the competitions.  Hopefully the number of entrants will increase in 2022..

10. Hon. League Secretary’s Report

Carshalton Bowling Club were formally welcomed into both the Association and the Midweek League. Member clubs were thanked for emailing their results in a timely fashion.  The winners of the Midweek League were Mitcham Canons, in Division 1, and Carshalton Swans in Division 2.  Carshalton Swans have now been promoted to Division 1, whilst Heathfield Hotshots have been relegated to Division 2.  Wandilea Bowling club were winners of the Weekend League.  Magdalen Park have applied to join the Midweek League, and it was agreed by the Committee that they would take the place of Colliers Wood, who have unfortunately folded.

11. Hon. Competition Secretary’s Report

Nickie thanked Belmont Bowling Club for hosting our very first Finals Weekend, which made scheduling the finals much easier for all competitors and special requests for certain days easier to accommodate.  The final of the Top 10 was also held over this weekend and going forward this will be held on the Sunday morning, in the hope that it will give competitors a chance to support their fellow clubs.  As a side note Nickie said that she was proud of her daughter Lilly’s achievements, in becoming the youngest ever winner of an Association competition, and she hoped that Lilly will continue playing the sport.

12. Proposed Rule Changes.

It was proposed that rather than trophies that are costing over £1000 annually we should investigate getting pennants, such as the ones presented by London & Southern Counties Bowling Assocation, this was unanimously agreed upon, subject to cost and lead times.

13. Vote of thanks to Retiring Officers.

Secretary Nickie Jenkins passed on her thanks for the work of the committee, after a difficult couple of years we couldn’t run this association without the support of everyone involved..

14  Election of Officers

With Daisy Leach (Belmont BC) taking over as Past President, and Barbara Payne (Heathfield BC) moving to President.
