Tree-cycle for free

Residents can tick one thing off their post-Christmas to-do list by recycling their real Christmas trees for free with the Council’s fortnightly Garden Waste Collection service.

Trees with a trunk of up to 90mm (3.5”) in diameter will be collected by the service until Friday 28 January 2022, which ensures all the trees are turned into environmentally friendly compost.

Residents need simply put their tree by the boundary of their property, where they normally place their refuse or recycling sacks, by 6.30am on the day the Council’s fortnightly Garden Waste Collection service takes place on their road.

Trees should not be potted or on a stand, and must be free of decorations before being put out for recycling.

Residents unsure when the service is visiting their road can go to www.sevenoaks.gov.uk/collectiondays.

Cllr Margot McArthur, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Cleaner and Greener, says: “I’m delighted that once again, we are offering this quick and easy way of disposing of your Christmas tree free of charge. It should save you a trip to the dump – not to mention the hassle of removing all those needles from your car!”

Trees with a trunk exceeding 90mm can be recycled at one of Kent County Council’s (KCC) Household Waste Recycling sites. Visit www.kent.gov.uk/recycling for locations and opening times and to book a slot.
