Bagworth Bowls Club
Bagworth Bowls Club has been in existence since approx. 1928 and in now located behind the Bagworth Community Centre on Station Road, Bagworth. The club was originally set up as a miners sports club but is now open to people of any age, men and women, new or experience bowlers. The club could originally only play "away games" as it did not have its own green and has previously been located near to the Bagworth Colliery.
Bagworth have annual fixtures against many clubs in the North West region of Leicestershire, playing friendly matches on Wednesday evenings and Saturday afternoons as well as having a club "roll up" night for practice on Monday evenings. The club also holds an annual trip to various seaside locations which in previous years have included Weston-super-Mare, Great Yarmouth, Mablethorpe, Felixstowe and Skegness.
The club are members of the Coalville and District Bowling Association and have a team in the Thursday Triples League for over 30 years. Over the past 10 years the club has maintained its status in the 'B Division' and have twice been promoted into the 'A Division'. Currently the club is in the 'B Division' and with the membership becoming more experienced are aiming for promotion again this year. Bagworth Bowls Club are affiliated to Bowls Leicestershire and regularly enter county competitions, particularly following the recent success in Winning the 2-Wood Triples competition in 2009, Runner-Up of the 2-Wood Triples competition in 2012 and Winning the County Triples competition in 2015. During this time individual members have had further success in winning and coming runner-up in various Bowls Leicestershire competitions, particular through its Junior bowlers, for more information please visit the 'Club Honours' page.
The members are extremely proud of their recent achievements and continue to strive to improve the clubs facilities. In recent years the bowls club have extended the club house, including adding toilet facilities, as well as building two changing rooms external to the main clubhouse. The development has been made possible through gaining funding from Sport England, acquiring a development loan from Bowls England and through continuous hard work and fundraising from its membership.
