BEDs VPs MATCH REPORT OCT 16th 2025

BEDFORDSHIRE VPs (72) MATCH REPORT OCTOBER 16th 2025

Thursday October 16th 2025 the Bedfordshire VPs ventured to the Bedford Boro I.B.C. to play our f irst match of the indoor season. We arrived with 16 players which was slightly disappointing as we were aware that Bedford Boro had got 18., However it was agreed with the captain of Bedford Boro that they will loan us a player with the format being 5 triples and 1 pair which proved very satisfactory. From the very first bowl delivered the Boro were on top form, they played brilliantly and sadly we were no match for them and it was not too long before they stormed ahead and built up a very healthy lead. This resulted in 4 of our triples suffering really heavy defeats. On rink 3 Rob Leonard and their loan player John Collins put up a magnificent fight and just got pipped on the very last end losing by a single shot. Rink 6 also did us proud by drawing 12 -12 so well done to Peter and Sue Glennon and super skip Gervais Cave, although this was not a winning rink in our eyes it was as good as. The final result was a devastating loss of 52-150 which must rank as one of our highest losing scores (if not the highest) but in the true Bedfordshire VPs tradition we still came away smiling and more determined than ever. Many congratulations go to Bedford Boro in putting a great show of bowling. We welcomed 2 new members to our fold namely Jackie and Ray Phillips and they both had good and enjoyable games despite their baptism of fire with the losses they incurred. They. were given mementos to mark the occasion and we hope they play many more games for us in the future with hopefully better results. Tea and biscuits were on offer after the game which was most appreciated by all and our thanks go to the Boro in making it a very enjoyable afternoon.
