BEDFORDSHIRE VPs REPORT JAN 28TH 2024
BEDFORDSHIRE VPs MATCH REPORT JANUARY 28TH 2024
On Sunday January 28th 2024 the Bedfordshire VPs visited Kempston I.B.C. for the long awaited fixture, unfortunately Kempston could only manage to get 6 triples so sadly a lot of our players were going to be disappointed in not playing. For this game we were inundated with a vast number of nominations totalling 43 which was excellent but proved a little bit tricky in selection, but i am sure our players understood the situation. On arrival we were given a warm welcome as many of our players knew some of Kempston’s players so this was the platform for a good afternoons bowling. This day was special for 4 new members playing their first game for the VPs. They were Carol and Mick Curtis and Debbie and Jeff Inseal. All of them were all presented with mementos to mark the occasion and we hope they enjoyed their baptism and we look forward in seeing them in may more future games. It was great to see Robin Mowe playing in his first game following his health issues and he managed to play the full 18 ends with no adverse effects so well done to him. Now we get on with the game which sadly proved a bridge to far from start to finish. At the half way stage we were trailing by 36 shots. The second half of the game was no different and we finally lost the game with a deficit of 60 shots with the score being 67 -127. Our wings had certainly been clipped but we still came off the green with smiles all round despite our loss. We did manage to have a highest winning rink (the only winning rink) albeit by a solitary shot but a win is a win so congratulations to our victors Peter Lill, Carol Curtis and ably skipped by Fiona Mowe. On the other end of the scale the Chairman’s rink lost considerably with the score being 7-26. No excuses they were better than us on the day. The game was played straight through with no breaks so we were looking forward to the meal provided, well we were not disappointed because it was lasagne and salad followed by strawberry gateaux which we all enjoyed. Laughter was had when the box which contained the raffle tickets was accidentally knocked over by our Chairman with most of the tickets spilling onto the floor. It was so funny in seeing people hurriedly trying to pick up the tickets as quickly as they can. But our Chairman had the last laugh by winning one of the raffle prizes. The afternoon proved a great success and we look forward playing them again in the future.
