BEDS VPs MATCH REPORT SEPT 10th 2026

BEDS VPs (93) MATCH REPORT SEPT 10th 2026

The final fixture of the 2026 outdoor season was going to be a members “Fun Day” and was to be played on Thursday 10th September with the venue being Langford B.C. The game which is to be played is called the “1 Metre Rule” and as the name suggests you have to try to get your bowls within 1 metre of the Jack to score. The bowl that is nearest the jack counts as 1 point and if your are fortunate to have more bowls nearer the jack than your opponents they also count accordingly so the maximum that can be scored is 6. To make this game practical and more enjoyable we requested that Langford participate by letting some of their players join us to make the required numbers needed. Teams are in triples and are randomly drawn, two triples per rink and you play 4 ends. On completion, you hand in your score card and move onto another rink so it gives you a good opportunity to meet. and play against different players. Sadly Langford had 2 players not turning up, however Langford had a spare player so after some deliberation by the Langford captain it was decided that one team would have to play with just 2 players. Not ideal but there was little that could be done. We welcomed a new member to our Association being Faith Stammers and I hope she enjoyed the opportunity to play for us and looking forward to more games with us in the future. Peter Holmes’s and his wife who are both members of Langford kindly offered to organise the afternoon for us and arbitrate which was very much appreciated and we offer our sincere thanks and gratitude for there help. Well the game got underway and there was some slight confusion as where they should be playing but this was quickly sorted out and very soon everyone was enjoying the afternoon. The meal after the game was the British favourite traditional fish and chips although a couple had sausage and chips and one had a veggie burger. This was followed by a choice of assorted ice creams which we all enjoyed immensely.
