BEDS VPs MATCH REPORT MAY 7th 2026

BEDS VPs (82) MATCH REPORT MAY 7th 2026
The first fixture of the outdoor season once again saw the VPs travel to Wellingborough B.C. to
play Northampton Retired Police B.A. and as we have experienced in the past we were warmly
welcomed and all looking forward to the afternoons bowling.
The weather forecast was cloudy, however this proved to be incorrect as most of the afternoon
was bathed in sunshine with a gentle breeze. Absolutely ideal bowling conditions.
The format for the game was going to be 6 triples with no break interval, well after 9 ends we
found ourselves winning 54-47, now we must hold our nerve to go on and win the game. I can
assure you that the game was played in good spirit with plenty of laughter in abundance which
made everything so enjoyable.
The bowling green was in superb condition and we all agreed the green keepers have done a
magnificent job.
When the game was completed 5 of our score cards were handed in and would you believe the
scores were level. So everything depended on the final score card. Amazingly the score was 13 -
7 in our favour and so we won the match 100-94. Thanks to this trio of Peter Lill, Debbie Inseal
and Gervais Cave making us the victors.
However this did not make them the highest winning rink, this accolade went to Peter Irons, Rob
Leonard with Peter Denton steering the ship. Our congratulations go to them.
We were very fortunate in welcoming a new member to our fold (although he has played for us in
the past) namely Jim Lumsden and we wish him every success and enjoyment with us for the
future.
The meal served was Gammon, chips & peas with a slice of fresh pineapple. This was followed by
apple / pear crumble with custard. Most enjoyable and again up to their high standard.
