BEDS VPs (89) MATCH REPORT 13th AUGUST 2026 v HARPERBURY B.C.

In searing heat of temperatures above 34 degrees the Bedfordshire VPs played their fixture on Thursday 13th August 2026 against Harperbury B.C. (Radlett) With 19 players it was agreed that we play 5 triples and 1 rink playing against 6 triples, it was also decided to play just 12 ends with an interval of at least 15 minutes after 6 ends where players can get rehydrated and cool down and this decision proved very satisfactory with all the players. Due to a misunderstanding Harperbury had an all mens team but this did not deter our ladies as you can see by the result . Tremendous performance The heat proved too much for our Chairman Peter Irons who after 6 ends had to withdraw due to the heat. Peter made a full recovery thanks to both sets of players and staff of Harperbury after about half an hour. It just shows how quickly this heat can effect you and what precautions you need to take. The match was played in great spirit and at the interval we found ourselves trailing by the score was 26-33. It was during this interval everyone was given an ice cream which was most enjoyable and refreshing. Well the second half of the game proved very fruitful for us (was it the ice cream who knows) however we ran out winners by 78-57 so well done to all our players on a job well done. We did have a highest winning rink being Iain Andrews, Debbie Inseal with Jackie Cameron at the sharp end. Many congratulations go to them all. The meal provided after was Chicken, new potatoes with mixed vegetables and for pudding it was sponge cake with ice cream. First class. This was our first fixture with Harperbury which was a great success and hopefully we can arrange a fixture with them next year. I do hope so.
