BEDS VPS MATCH REPORT MARCH 8th 2026

Sunday March 8th 2026 was the date set for the “Ladies v Gents” match to be played at Bedford Boro I.B.C. but because of the low number of players being available this was not going to take place, so it was agreed that if Bedford Boro could raise a team we could play against them so everybody would get a game. Originally Bedford Boro had only 11 players but with some arm twisting by Fiona Mowe she managed to get the numbers up to 15 and we had a similar number so the match was going to be 5 triples format. All went very well, with the score cards made out when we received a phone call to say that one of our players was caught up in a traffic jam and would be arriving late. Luckily the Boro had a player on standby so they could fill in whilst we were waiting which meant there was going to be no delay in getting the game underway. Happily our player turned up just prior to the start so we were up to full strength. 41- 50 was the score at the halfway stage so we had some catching up to do, Well we did our best and won on 3 rinks but sadly lost quite heavily on the other 2 and finally came second best overall and lost the match with the score being 73-94 in favour of the Boro. Well done to them and we offer our congratulations. Our highest winning rink was Peter Irons, Kim Douglas and skipped by Peter Denton. Well done to them. Humerus comments were made about being a loaded rink. Was it??. We must thank Fiona and our Fixture Secretary Chris Saunders for making the afternoon possible and enjoyable coupled with some excellent bowling and friendship. A well earned cup of tea and biscuits was provided afterwards which made the afternoon a great success.
