BEDS VPs AUGUST 10th 2025

BEDS VPs (68) MATCH REPORT AUGUST 10th 2025 As we are nearing the end of the outdoor season we prepared ourselves to play on Sunday 10th August 2025 against Luton West End B.C. This is the ground when the aircraft fly so low you can almost see the pilot. Our original numbers of players for selection was over 20 so there did not seem to be any problem getting a team together because Luton West End had just 15 players. Then suddenly we had a deluge of players who became unavailable for one reason or another which reduced our numbers drastically to 13. then i received an email from Fiona Mowe which mentioned one of our ex members namely Richard Lloyd (who now lives in Somerset) was visiting friends up this way and would it be possible to give him a game as a guest player thus giving us a total of 14 players. Chris Saunders who was captain of the day and after discussions with the opposition. it was agreed that the format would be 4 triples and 1 pair. So we were all set for an enjoyable afternoons bowling. Well the weather forecast was going to be very hot and sticky but certain sections of the green were sheltered by the surrounding trees, this created shady areas which was a welcomed relief for some. After 9 ends the score was certainly in favour of Luton West End being 31-51. The second leg proved very different by a magnificent comeback by the VPs. Both teams played there very best and Luton West End just got their nose in front and won the match by just 4 shots with the score being 87-91. A very close game indeed. We did have 2 winning rinks, each with the same shot difference and after count back on ends won, rink 3 was declared the winner. So congratulations and well done go to Sue Glennon, Richard Lloyd (guest) and Jeff Inseal. Luton West End accepted no fee for the tea and biscuits which we had after the game and you must agree it was a wonderful gesture and our thanks and gratitude goes to them. A very pleasant and friendly afternoon was had by everybody.
