BEDFORDSHIRE VPs MATCH REPORT FEB 1st 26

BEDFORDSHIRE VPs (77) MATCH REPORT FEBRUARY 1st 2026

Sunday 1st February 2026 we had a most exciting and tense fixture with the Bedfordshire VPs matching their skills against Kempston I.B.C. It was very encouraging to see so many of our players being available to play (over 30) and that Kempston could get enough players to play a seven rink match. It’s such a long time since we played 7 rinks. Unfortunately we found ourselves a player short at the last minute but Chris Saunders ( Bedfordshire VPs fixture Secretary) managed to cajole Amanda Lancaster who is a member from Kempston to step in for us (with Kempston’s blessing). So we were all set. Right from the onset the game was nip and tuck until the very end and it did not look too favourable for us at the halfway point with the score being 40-51 in favour of Kempston I.B.C. The VPs fought back admirably and certainly with determination performed some outstanding bowling and would you believe it the result of the game was decided by rink 6. who under great pressure managed to win by 3 shots on the very last end of the game. This result meant that we just sneaked over the line to win overall by a small margin of 104-100. Truly a great effort and congratulations go to everybody, you did us proud so please give yourself a pat on the back. A small gift was given to Amanda for helping out and she intimated that she might apply to join the VPs which was pleasing to hear. We welcomed a new member to our fold namely Wendy Atterbury (Hutton) who was playing in her first game for us and in the usual tradition she was given a memento to mark the occasion. I am sure Wendy will play many more game for us in the future. We were fortunate in having a highest winning rink being Peter Irons, David Atterbury. Sue Bell and masterly skipped by Brenda Howe. Well done to each and everyone of them. We must say it was a great afternoon with good company and amongst friends which was completed by a wonderful meal afterwards being Chicken Chasseur, vegetables followed by warm chocolate brownie and ice cream. Absolutely first class.
