BEDS VPs (71) REPORT SEPT 11th 2025

BEDS VPs (71) MATCH REPORT SEPTEMBER 11th 2025

Sunday September 11th 2025 the Bedfordshire VPs arranged their annual “Fun Day” which was to be played at Langford B.C. In the past we have played “North v South” but in reality it didn’t really materialise due to the location of members. It was decided to play a “1 Metre Rule Gala” and what a success it turned out to be. Teams are in pairs, you play 3 matches consisting of 7 ends per match, you have two (2) bowls per person and basically to score you must get your bowls within one metre of the jack to count. Not easy, so this is where your drawing skills come into play. We invited several members from Langford B.C. to join us which then gave us a total of 30 players which was absolutely ideal. The weather was not too bad with one small shower so there was very little interruptions. After each match your score was handed into the adjudicating officer Rob Leonard who collated all the scores. It was a tremendous and entertaining afternoon with the game played in good spirits coupled with plenty of humour and it was most rewarding to see the Langford players mixing well with the VPs. The meal provided afterwards was again an old favourite being fish and chips which i am sure everyone enjoyed and appreciated which completed a great afternoon. Well with 15 teams playing we waited anxiously for the adjudicator to announce the team who got the holy grail and the other team placings. A deadly hush was had and our congratulations go the winners Tom Quirke and Derek Harding (Langford B.C.) who scored a magnificent 95 points. Thanks were given to Langford B.C. in allowing us to host the event which we hope to do again next year.
