BEDS VPs MATCH REPORT FEBRUARY 8th 2026

BEDS VPs (78) MATCH REPORT FEBRUARY 8th 2026

Sunday 8th February 2026 the Bedfordshire VPs had to travel to Riverain I.B.C. to play this fixture with just 20 players due to some of the nominees becoming unavailable. It was just as well as Riverain could also raise 20 players, so it was decided to make it a 5 rink match. On arrival we were met with a very warm welcome which set the tone for an enjoyable and friendly afternoon. After a steady start Riverain proved to be a strong team and after nine ends we were trailing 29-45 with seemed a steep hill to climb but as usual we always try and give our best. We then stopped for a welcomed tea / coffee with biscuits. Now they say everything changes after tea but sadly this did not happen for us and we lost the match with the score being 56-101. So well done to Riverain on there fine win. One of our newest members namely Jackie Phillips playing in only her second game for us was absolutely delighted in getting a couple of touchers which made her game more enjoyable despite their heavy rink loss. We then found ourselves with no winning rinks so it was decided to give the traditional mementos (note pads) to the lowest losing rink. This proved rather interesting as we had 2 rinks with the same losing score of minus 3. To obtain a winner a count back on ends won was going to decide the victor. One rink won 8 ends and the the other 7 ends. So rink 1 was declared the winner being Geoff Conquest, Iain Andrews, Geoff Bell and guided by Tony Duke as skip. Well done to them. For the meal provided afterwards we were treated to Chicken Chasseur with vegetables plus fruity roulade or fruit cocktail with cream for pudding. A really excellent meal.
