BEDS VPs (69) MATCH REPORT AUG 24th 2025

BEDS VPs (69) MATCH REPORT AUGUST 24th 2025

Sunday 24th August 2025 the VPs travelled to Wilstead B.C. for the much awaited annual f ixture. This being a celebratory match. Wilstead had reached a landmark of 40 years in the history of their club, to them well done and we wish them every success for the future. Unfortunately the VPs could only get 16 players due to members having either County or club commitments. Wilstead had 24 players readily available so it was agreed that they would loan us 4 players to make it 5 rinks apiece. On a sad note it was reported that they had one of their long standing members Dave Potter who sadly passed away so a minutes silence was had prior to the commencement of the game. The weather was ideal for bowling and soon the game got under way, well the VPs got off to a good start and at the halfway stage we managed to lead by the score of 36-29 (could this be our day). As much as we tried we fell at the last hurdle and lost by 65-70, so near and yet so far. Never mind we had a brilliant afternoon chatting to old friends and forging new friendships. We certainly did not disgrace ourselves because we won on 3 rinks which was excellent and well done to them, however there can only be one highest winning rink and would you believe it was rink 5 (the loan 4 from Wilstead) who took the accolade namely Alan Ratcliffe, Sue Fogerty, Lan Coxan and ably skipped by Dennis Mack. Congratulations and well done to them and thanks were given to them for helping us out. As usual Wilstead provided a sumptuous buffet with ample sandwiches etc, plus cakes to enjoy after the game. A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon was had by all.
