Family Cycle Day 2023

Boroughbridge Lions held its annual Family Bike Ride last Sunday and what a fantastic event it turned out to be!

Blessed with a lovely dry and sunny day, a record 160 parents and young children gathered at both Boroughbridge Primary and Great Ouseburn Primary schools to cycle the 12 mile country road route between the two venues and back again.

Our club was ably supported by both schools, who offered catering at each end and used the event to raise their own funds.

Our thanks go to Charltons Garage and Boroughbridge & District Chamber of Trade for their sponsorship; ETC for providing the road signs; RedSky Bikes who checked the bikes to make sure they were roadworthy; Boroughbridge town mayor who opened the event; Dave Shields (Dave Shields Fitness) who ran the warm up session at Boroughbridge, Emma Rock & her daughter Lily at Great Ouseburn and last but not least, the 22 marshals most of whom were from other Lions clubs in the district.

The Bike Ride has truly turned into a fantastic event, enjoyed by riders and all the supporters alike. So many smiling faces of young children waving at marshals as they rode past. Further grins when each child received their certificate and medal for completing the ride. It’s lovely to see families cycling together in the countryside in a safe and secure environment.

The success of the day was summed up by the organisers at Great Ouseburn school who said, “ Just wanted to say thank you again for your support yesterday. There is a real buzz on our mums WhatsApp group about what a great day it was and how supportive, encouraging and fun the Lions were. Thanks again “

Collaboration is the key to these events.
