Boroughbridge Lions were very pleased to be able to buy and present to 3 primary schools in Ripon a set of children’s books and teacher pack called “The Wild Tribe Heroes”.
The schools receiving the books were: Ripon Cathedral School, St Wilfrid's School and Holy Trinity School.
The books by Ellie Jackson, teacher and children's author, focus on environmental issues such as the problem of ocean plastics and climate change and how we can all help make a difference.
Each book follows a well-loved animal who finds themselves in trouble when their life is affected by plastic in the oceans, palm oil deforestation or climate change. With help from kind and brave people they are rescued and released.
All stories are based on true events and have happy endings with a strong positive message for children and adults alike. They cover the issues of ocean plastic, balloon releases, ghost fishing, palm oil, melting sea ice, bushfires and habitat loss.
The books offer solutions to the problems giving hope and inspiring children to make positive changes to their own lives and their communities.
We are looking forward to hearing about what projects the children and schools have set up as a result of reading these books.
