Parish Council Elections

Boughton Malherbe Parish Council will be going to the elections on 2 May 2024.

Would you be interested in joining the Council and becoming part of the team?

Are you aged 18 or over? Lived or worked in Boughton Malherbe for over a year?
» Do you want to make a difference to our community?
» Then why not consider becoming a parish councillor…

What do parish councils do? As elected representatives of the community, the councils aim is for the people of Boughton Malherbe to enjoy the village and be able to utilise all the assets that we have.

We care about our surroundings and our aim is to preserve and enhance our community. We are also a statutory consultee on local planning applications as well as working with our neighbouring parish councils and Maidstone Borough Council and Kent County Council.

What’s the role of a councillor? We have 5 seats on the council, and members are supported by a part time Clerk.  The council aims to meet 6 times a year with additional meetings of planning and finance committees when required. Meeting at Grafty Green Village Hall at 7.30pm.

Many councillors are also involved in other ways on a voluntary basis in their community. Whilst parish councillors are volunteers they may claim expenses as necessary and full training is available.

Could you be a councillor? We are seeking active and committed applicants; councillors need to be able to spend approx. 2-3 hours per month on parish council activities including meetings and getting involved with new projects around the village. Councillors also need to be IT literate and have facilities to access emails and documents sent via the internet.

Nomination papers must be lodged with Maidstone Borough Council by Friday, 5 April at 5pm. For more information, please contact the SLCC Locum Clerk on 07944 668802 or via email at boughtonmalerbepc@gmail.com
