Coombe Bissett and Homington are extremely vulnerable to flooding which can be destructive to property and dangerous to residents and visitors.

Have a personal flood plan ready, ensure all family members know the plan.

Ensure you have enough sandbags or gel sacs (available from local builders’ merchants) to cover doors and floor vents. See documents below on how to use them safely and effectively. 

Keep a list of emergency numbers to hand. 

Check on elderly or vulnerable neighbours. If you think someone might need help, please contact the Flood Warden for your area.

If your area has a flood warning (when flooding is expected) or severe flood warning (when there’s a danger to life):

• Turn off your gas, electricity and water supplies, if it’s safe to do so. Do not touch an electrical switch if you’re standing in water.
• Move your family, vehicles, pets and important items to safety, for example upstairs or to higher ground. 
• Ensure your car is parked in a safe place.
• If you have them, use flood protection ie sandbags, pumps.
• Follow advice from the emergency services - you may be asked to evacuate.

Stay safe during flooding.

Do not walk through flood water, it may have debris or be slippery.

Keep in contact with emergency services.

If you must drive, take care and drive very slowly through flood water to avoid damaging other people’s property.
