An update on South East Water's £12million project
Eastling Parish Council
South East Water’s project is to install approximately 16 kilometres of new water main to improve the resilience of the water supply network in east Kent.
To date, they have now laid 4940 metres of new pipeline between Warren Street and Charing, and 2000 metres in the Wychling and Doddington area.
South East Water has recently started work in Charing and completed a small section along the Pilgrims Way, which required the closure of a footpath for one day. They are now continuing to lay pipeline towards the service reservoir and a connection into Charing Reservoir has now been undertaken.
South East Water will soon be starting work on the A252 Charing Hill, starting on Monday, 7 August. As they carry out this important stage of the project, a temporary speed reduction will be introduced along the road, with the speed limit reduced to 30 miles per hour, while there will also be multi-way temporary traffic lights in use.
This traffic management has been agreed with Kent County Council and is set to be in place for around five weeks.
Following this, there will be a road closure on the Pilgrims Way public highway in Charing, from the A252 junction to 100 metres east of the property ‘Little Rye’. This closure is scheduled to be in place from Tuesday, September 12 to Tuesday, October 24.
Meanwhile, South East Water’s next road closure in the Doddington section of the project at Seed Road, Newnham, is scheduled between Monday, 21 August and Wednesday, 30 August.
Further information on the project can be found at www.southeastwater.co.uk/eastkent and South East Water will continue to provide further updates as the project progresses.
