OIL FIRED HEATING BUYING GROUP

Since 1994, we have had a group in the village where we buy heating oil together and share the savings made which can be up to 7p per litre.  We currently have about 260 members in the Frittenden area with 2 other groups in Goudhurst and Wittersham that we co-operate with to maximise savings.  This means that together, we buy in the region of 300,000 litres per order, which gives us good purchasing power.

We buy oil 3 times per year, in February, July and November.  On the last order which was for Frittenden only, we bought 128,000 litres at 44.58 pence per litre + VAT. On the day we ordered, the average price of a 500 litre delivery was 49.94ppl + VAT, so we jointly saved over £6,600.

The way the system works is that you give me an accurate estimate of how much you need.  I add all the figures together and then negotiate the best price I can get from a range of local suppliers and place the order.  As the price is fixed each day, I cannot give you advanced information of the price, but it will be the best that I can get.  No commissions or expenses are charged, the same price will be paid by all of us.  Every member pays their own bill from the supplier when their oil is delivered; the only rule of the syndicate is that we all make prompt payment as this helps in obtaining a competitive price.
