Captain's Notes

We are delighted to report that we are now officially a "Bowls Bash" accredited club. Bowls Bash is a new format of the game, introduced by Bowls England to try and attract new players who may have a restricted amount of time available to play. This new format can be played in an hour and it comprises a match of 2 sets  each set containing  five ends. In the event that both teams win one set, a tie break is played with each player bowling one bowl. Scoring is by points with 3 points for the bowl closest to the jack  2 points for second with 1 for third. A bowl hitting the jack scores 2 points and one joker can be played per set.

This is a great new format and is ideal to generate new interest in the sport.

We are now a month into the season and we have had a very uneven month so far. Several matches have been cancelled because of the weather and a friendly was also cancelled following the death of the c,ub Secretary of our opposition,  Torquay Victoria.

We have however managed to play 8 friendlies, including our first day trip of the season to Minehead, winning 5 of those matches. It looks as though we now have a period of dry sunny weather to look forward to and this will help dry out and speed up the green following the flooding on May 9th.
