Why not join Howard Gardens Bowls Club? Despite being the smallest club in the league we play in - Stevenage and District Mixed Bowls -  we are one of the strongest: runners up in 2024 and 2022, and third in 2023.  We also play in a Friendly league, just for fun - and you don't have to have played bowls before to join us as we have a qualified England Bowls Association Coach on board plus numerous folks keen to support and train you.

Our Green is, unsurprisingly, located in Howard Gardens in Letchworth , adjacent to the Town Centre and is professionally maintained by contractors Turfcare.

As bowls is traditionally a sport played by White men of a certain age, like so many clubs we are underrepresented by Black and ethnic minority people, by women and by those under the age of sixty. In 2025 we updated our Code of Conduct and commitment to making bowls accessible for all with a strong Equalities policy and procedure, as well as a Safeguarding officer. So any adult regardless of background will receive a warm and supportive welcome.  You don't need any kit to try the game out - and with lots of free roll ups you can find out if bowls is the sport for you and free membership to first-time bowlers for the first season with us.

The Bowls season runs from the end of April until late September, with most matches taking place in the afternoons or evenings, mid week and weekends.

We're a friendly bunch too, with social events during the off-season, and internal games with the most amazing teas and prizes!

Join us any Monday between 6 and 7.30 pm at the green, and try us for yourself!

And why not follow us on Facebook!
