Things to do

WALKING

Alton is surrounded by beautiful rolling countryside, and has a good number of attractions. There are a number of walks you can do in locality - here you can download the leaflets:

During the summer months, there are also regular Alton Guided Walks - guided tours of the town. These start at Alton Community Centre, located next to the Bank Car Park behind the High Street.

You can pick up the Jane Austen Trail, Jane Austen Town Walk and Exploring Alton leaflets free in Alton and Chawton. The Jane Austen Literary Walk is part of a pack of six literary walks that is on sale at local libraries and tourist information centres. We apologise for the similarity of the walk names. Just to confuse matters further, the Curtis Museum in Alton also has a 'Jane Austen Trail' around its ground floor exhibits.

If you would like to other things to do whilst you are in our corner of the world...
