Grant Project 2015 - 2016

Our thanks go to Biffa Award for giving Kegworth Bowls Club £10,000 funding towards this project.

Kegworth Bowls Club has secured a £10,000 grant from Biffa Award, a multi-million pound fund that helps to build communities and transforms lives through awarding grants to communities and environmental projects across the UK, as part of the Landfill Communities Fund.

Kegworth Bowls Club is affiliated to Bowls Leicestershire and Bowls England and is open to all.  The project, which was awarded funding under Biffa Award's Community Building theme, will improve the clubhouse by replacing two windows and two doors, painting the external cladding and veranda, and replacing the kitchen units.

The building is unique to it's age, this project will give a new lease of life to enable the sport of bowls to survive on the site for future generations.  The windows and doors will improve security and the external painting will help preserve the building for future generations.  The new kitchen will enable the club to open it's doors to many other people and groups within the community and surrounding villages.

The aim of this project is that these improvements to the building will help attract new users and groups, providing facilities for local communities, and help us to focus on developing bowl skills.

Why not check out the project page for current updates and photos.

Kegworth Bowls Club has also secured a grant from Awards for All 'Big Lottery' to compliment the grant from Biffa. Every year Awards for All fund 12,000 projects using money raised by National Lottery players, to do remarkable work supporting communities and improving lives.

The project which was awarded funding from the Awards for all will go to compliment the award from Biffa. This funding will enable Kegworth Bowls Club to lay a new floor in the kitchen area, install a dishwasher, an under sink water heater, fit a hot water boiler and two fridges.  The electrics and plumbing will also be updated to comply with health safety and environmental requirements.

Our project is just getting up steam and over the next few months we hope to see the tired old clubhouse re-furbished with some new windows and doors, a new kitchen and the external building repainted. Planned date for completion is the end of March 2016 in time for the start of the new season.

14th December and things are progressing well. kitchen's all out and the old lino is in the bin.  Had ideas to re-use some of the kitchen units and tops in other parts of the club, will upload photo's when in new locations.  Looks like Santa has come up trumps and we should get the new windows and doors fitted in time for Christmas.

21st December and the Windows and Doors are in and they look great, just need to tidy up some the wiring.

1st January 2016 welcome's in a new year and a fresh feel to the club house. After decorating the kitchen ready for the new units the club room looked sad so Paul and Brenda waved their magic wands (brushes) and transformed the club room from a frog to a prince.

5th January our thanks to Awards for All "Big Lottery" for giving us the funds to fit a new floor in the kitchen, upgrade the electrics and plumbing. install a dishwasher, under sink heater, hot water boiler and two fridges. these will enhance the new fitted kitchen and ensure the electrics and pluming meet current standards.

13th January first fix electrics and plumbing done.  New floor laid looks great. two more weeks and the kitchen should be finished.  External painting waiting for warmer weather.

28 January Kitchen installed second fix electrics done, hard to remember what the old kitchen looked like glad we took the before photos. ladies are busy putting the crockery back into the cupboards they can't wait to try the dishwasher.

Looking forward to seeing the reaction from the member when they check out the new facilities.

5th February Had some great comments from members who has seen the new kitchen. "that's brilliant" "it's so much brighter" "Wow" "you've done a grand job"

Mon 8th March and were on the home straight the external paining has started.

Tues 15th March and paining is now complete, what a transformation the veranda is bright and white and the external cladding has a smooth even finish. This should help to preserve the building for years to come.

Just need to set up an annual inspection to ensure we keep it maintained.  Thanks again to Biffa Award.

Check out the before and after photo's as we progress.
