It is with great regret that we have learned of the death of our bowling friend and colleague, Alec Deller who sadly passed away on Saturday 23 December with his family by his side. We extend our sincere condolences to Gill and their families.

In my position as Club Coach, I first met Alec in 2014 when he’d decided to have a go at bowls and from the start, he showed great promise and I had high hopes that he would be a great asset to the Club. He spent many hours practising both on his own and with others, particularly Gill when they became a couple. And this certainly paid off as he was soon spotted to play in the various leagues as an outstanding lead. In 2018, he, with Joan Dawkins, won the Drawn Pairs competition and then in 2022, he was runner up with Pat Spinks in the Australian Pairs.

He joined the greens maintenance team and also he and Gill gave a large amount of their time tending the hanging baskets and bringing colour and joy to the Club.

Above all this, though, Alec had a lovely nature and was always willing to help out where required. Alec, you will be sorely missed by all who knew you and particularly by your dear wife, Gill, and members of your families.
