Community Governance Review stage one

Shropshire Council is undertaking a review of the Community Governance of Town/Parish Councils in Shropshire.

The first stage of the review (initial consultation) has now been completed and detailed draft proposals will be agreed at the full Council meeting on 21 March 2024 ahead of a further period of consultation. The Community Governance Working Group has met and has agreed the following recommendations which will be accompanied by necessary additional detail and put to full Council to assist it in agreeing the draft proposals:

Albrighton/Donington

That the parishes of Albrighton, Donington and Boscobel be combined to create one warded parish.

Bomere Heath (Pimhill)/Baschurch

That the Walford heath ward of Pimhill Parish Council be moved into Baschurch Parish and that a new ward of Baschurch Parish Council be created comprising of Walford and Walford Heath

Ludlow/Ludford

No change

Market Drayton/Adderley

That the Western Way ward of Adderley PC be moved into the Market Drayton East ward of Market Drayton Town Council

Shrewsbury

• That the Bicton Urban ward of Bicton PC be moved into the Bowbrook ward of Shrewsbury Town Council
• That the Upper Edgebold Ward of Great Hanwood PC be moved into the Radbrook Ward of Shrewsbury Town Council
• That the Hendrick Crescent ward of Atcham PC be moved into the Sutton & Reabrook ward of Shrewsbury TC
• That the portion of Berrington Parish to the north of the A5 be moved into the Sutton & Reabrook ward of Shrewsbury Town Council and that the LGBCE be asked to adjust the unitary boundary accordingly
• That the Pimley Manor ward of Uffington PC be moved into the Sundorne ward of Shrewsbury Town Council

Following the decision by full Council the next period of consultation will focus on the draft proposals before final proposals are determined by the Council later this year. It is intended that a further review will be undertaken following the next ordinary elections due to be held in May 2025.
