Problems With the New Bus Service?
We have been notified by a resident that the new Stagecoach smart-card on the 27 from Bawtry has not been accepted as valid. We will look into this with Stagecoach and try to sort out the problem.

New Bus service from Monday 4th April
Due to the retirement of the owner, Saturday 2nd April will be the last day of operation of the Service 127 operated by Unity Coaches and from Monday 4th April 2016, buses to and from the village will be operated by Stagecoach.
Bus times and routes
Whilst there will not be quite as many departures in the afternoon, the new Service 27 will operate through to Retford, leaving the village at 0733, 0933, 1133, 1333 and 1633 each day Monday to Saturday.
Passengers wishing to go to Doncaster can connect with buses at Bawtry where there is a bus departing every 15 minutes. There are also buses to Worksop and Gainsborough but the connections are less convenient.

Adult Fares
Single and return fares are available but these do not always represent best value for money and Stagecoach offer a range of daily and weekly tickets that offer significant savings.
For passengers travelling through to Doncaster, the best value ticket is a ‘Dearne Valley Dayrider’ which costs £3.90 (which is cheaper than the return fare from Bawtry to Doncaster) and offers unlimited travel on Stagecoach buses in that area for a day. There is a corresponding weekly ‘Megarider’ ticket which costs £12.00
Unfortunately the same deal is not available to those travelling towards Retford, Worksop or Gainsborough where a day ‘Explorer’ ticket costs £5.80 and whilst this offers unlimited travel for one day on all Stagecoach buses in the area it may not be the cheapest option for somebody travelling from Misson to Retford and back.
All these tickets are available from the driver.
Child Fares
The policy in Nottinghamshire is not nearly as generous as it is in South Yorkshire when it comes to children and whilst child single and return fares are cheaper than the corresponding adult fares there is no discounted ‘flat’ fare for children like there is for those living just over the county boundary.
Furthermore, the child ‘Explorer’ day ticket which covers our area and costs £3.90 is not available in Nottinghamshire before 0930 so it is of no benefit to those travelling to and from school.
Concessions
Holders of a National Concessionary Travel Pass travel free after 0930 Monday to Friday and all day Saturday.
These are issued free by Nottinghamshire County Council (nottinghamshire.gov.uk). At one time they were available to those aged 60 and over but the rules have changed and they are now issued to both men and women at the female state pension age.

“Misson is a small and relatively affluent village where most people have access to at least one car. The bus service, for even the short ‘extra’ distance from Bawtry, is unlikely to ever generate enough revenue from fares to cover the cost of the operation and it will always have depend upon Nottinghamshire County Council being prepared to make up the shortfall.
As local authority finances become ever tighter, they will always be on the lookout for savings that can be made and if hardly anybody ever uses the bus then this is a legitimate target.
If we want to keep a bus service then I call upon all of you to give the new service a try. Remember, there are things to do in Bawtry, Retford and Doncaster which can be better enjoyed without somebody always having to drive and the service can offer younger people the opportunity to enjoy leisure without being dependent upon their parents to ferry them around.”
