Inspiring, empowering and educating women for over 100 years

Newington Women’s Institute (WI) has been part of village life since 1920, making us one of the earliest Women’s Institutes to be formed. Over the years, the WI has continued to bring women together, providing friendship, fun, learning and opportunities to get involved in the local community.

We are a friendly and welcoming group, and you don’t need to know anyone to come along. Whether you are new to the village or have lived here for years, we would love you to join us and meet some like-minded women.

Something for everyone

Our programme is varied, with something different to enjoy throughout the year. Activities and events include:

• 🎤 Guest speakers on a wide range of interesting and entertaining subjects
• 🎨 Crafts and creative activities
• 🧠 Quizzes, games and competitions
• 🚌 Federation days out and visits
• 🌿 Local community projects
• 💜 Supporting local and national WI campaigns and causes
• 🎄 A special Christmas event
• ☕ Plenty of opportunities to chat, make friends and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee with, of course, cake!

There is always plenty of fun, laughter and friendship, and our meetings are a great opportunity to try something new, learn something interesting or simply enjoy a relaxed evening with good company.

When and where?

We meet on the third Thursday of every month (11 meetings each year, plus our Christmas event).

Doors open from 7.00pm, with the meeting starting at 7.30pm and finishing around 10.00pm.

If you are wondering whether the WI is for you, come along and try us out, open to all women 18 years and over. You are very welcome to join us for a meeting and see what we get up to before deciding whether you would like to become a member.

A yearly subscription is required after your free trial.
