OAKHAM BOWLING CLUB – JANUARY NEWSLETTER

Happy New Year

I hope you are all managing to keep clear of the various colds, coughs and covid viruses that seem to be rife at the moment, unfortunately I haven’t but I know I’m not alone.  Let’s hope this cold weather kills all the germs and we are all soon fighting fit again.

The renewal forms should have been delivered by my various ‘postmen’ around the town or been put in the post to those living further afield, so you should be receiving them very soon.  Administratively it would be an enormous help if you could get these forms back before the end of the month, please.  You can pop them into the post-box inside the clubhouse, pin them on the notice board in the ladies’ changing room, or post them back to me.  Please remember if you are paying via BACS to put ‘subs’ and your initials in the reference panel.

Shortmat evenings recommence on Wednesday 14th January.

The Majority Rules Quiz takes place on Friday 23rd January commencing 7pm.  Please drop me an email if you would like to take part and I’ll add your names to the list.  I think most of you know the format by now, but for the few that don’t it’s a very simple quiz as there are no wrong answers!  Your aim is always to find the answer that the majority of people give, the complete opposite of Pointless in fact.  No taxing of those little grey cells on this evening.  Please make up teams of 4 or join a team on the night.  There will be nibbles on the tables, but no refreshments will be served during the interval, which now seems to be acceptable to all.  Cost will be £3 per person and of course there will be prizes for the winning team.

A reminder that the next social events are:

Friday 27th February at 7pm  - Paul & Sue’s quiz

Friday 20th March at 7pm - Sylvia’s Bingo night

Open Night this year will be Friday 10th April from 6.30pm.

You all should have received copies of the Minutes from the AGM for your information.  Regretfully, there were two glaring omissions from the list of people that were thanked during the AGM, and this was discussed at the first Executive Committee meeting, with special mention and thanks going to Kath Rowlands who has once again kindly run the shortmat bowls evenings in the run up to Christmas, and will continue to do so until the start of the new season.  The members who come to this evening are immensely grateful to Kath and we apologise that she was not included amongst those mentioned at the AGM.

Another obvious omission was to thank Keith Hart for his tremendous organisation of both the chummy mornings and the Club Triples League, both of which require a lot of time and effort on his part.  The Triples League administration particularly must take up a lot of his time and for this we are very grateful, and pleased that he will be taking on this task again in 2026.

Look forward to seeing you at our forthcoming social events.

And finally, the boarding of flight 2026 has been announced…….
