NOVEMBER NEWSLETTER

CHARITY CHRISTMAS CARD – Alan will once again be organising our charity collection for Christmas.  For new members, this is a scheme we started several years ago whereby members make a monetary donation rather than sending out numerous individual Christmas Cards to other Members.  The money raised is donated to LOCAL charities, for local people.   The donation box will be put in the Club House on 21st November and will be removed on December 19th,.   Please put your donation in an envelope, together with a slip of paper giving your name, so that this can be included on the Club emailed Christmas card, which Alan will produce.  Be assured all donation details are kept strictly confidential.  If you have a favoured local charity please mention this on the slip of paper.  Cash is preferred please but of course for larger donations cheques are acceptable, made payable to Oakham Bowling Club, or of course Bank Transfer to HSBC sort code 40-35-21, Acc.No: 90632023, Oakham Bowling Club.  If you use the BACS method please ensure you reference it is for Christmas card, so that Paul can recognize the donation.  One local charity that we regularly support is EMICS (East Midlands Immediate Care Scheme).  This was set up by Dr Gray and is staffed by volunteer doctors who attend accidents ahead of the other emergency services.  All donations are used to fit out their cars with the necessary medical equipment.   Thank you in anticipation of your support.

FOR NEWER MEMBERS - TUESDAY 22nd NOVEMBER at 2pm:  As mentioned in the last Newsletter, we are trying something new in an attempt to help integrate newer members more thoroughly into the club and the game of bowls.  This will be a very informal afternoon and will cover anything you wish to have explained more fully about the game, the basic rules, etiquette and what bowling opportunities are going to be available next season.  We will be able to set up bowls heads on the short mat rink and explain the basics of measuring.  All in all, anything you want to know you can ask at this session, and hopefully more sessions will follow.  We will of course welcome any Member of the club who would like to come along and help us on the day.  If you are planning to come, it would be helpful if you could drop me an email (janetwright14@googlemail.comjust so we have an idea of numbers.

AGM – FRIDAY 3rd DECEMBER AT 7pm

You should have received the Agenda for this meeting.  Can I remind you that there are still Officer vacancies that need nominations.

Short Mat bowls continues on Wednesday evenings from 7pm.  Please call Kath or Roger (01572 723928) if you have any questions, or just come along – no need to book.

GRAND CHRISTMAS RAFFLE:  There are still plenty of numbers available on the board.  It is £2 per numbered square, and you can purchase as many squares as you wish.  Please place your money in the tub on the table by the board.  We would of course be very grateful for any raffle prize you wished to donate.

1st prize £100, 2nd prize £50, 3rd prize £25 + many other prizes.  This raffle will be drawn on:

FRIDAY 16th DECEMBER at our CHRISTMAS SOCIAL & MAJORITY RULES QUIZ, commencing 6.30pm.  Light refreshments will be served, and cost will be £5pp.  The notice will be on the board this weekend for you to enter your names (or email/phone me).    This is a very different sort of quiz and there are no right or wrong answers, just a lot of fun.  I hope you will join us for this pre Christmas get together.

I am still looking for someone to organise the refreshments for this evening please?  Nothing too grand is required and I’m happy to advise if you’d like to help out..  Give me a ring 01572 821137.

28th JANUARY 2023– Gail and Annie’s quiz – something to look forward to in the New Year – more details later.
