Opening Night 2026

On Friday evening Oakham Bowls Clubhouse was a lively hive of activity as members celebrated the opening of the 2026 season. As well as catching up with each other and enjoying a drink from the bar after the six-month winter closure of the green members were being signed up for the various club competitions by Club Secretary Janet and Competitions Secretary Stewart. Closing date for all entries is April 20th.  A reminder that the Open Draw for the Club Competitions is on Wednesday 6th May at 6.30 pm

This year’s President, Sylvia welcomed everyone, wishing them an enjoyable and successful season before going onto the green to bowl a ceremonial wood and to declare the green open. She complimented Nigel and his team on the splendid appearance and the excellent condition of the green. During the evening Sylvia’s granddaughter was running a cake stall to help fund a charity trek to Machu Pichu. It was well supported; the cakes were delicious and virtually sold out by the end of the evening.

This year’s Open Day is on Saturday 16th May. Everyone, irrespective of age is welcome to this, now annual event, when the club is open to attract new members. If you are keen to try your hand at lawn bowls you don’t need to wait for the open day as Keith's very popular Chummy sessions will be starting on Sunday 12th April at 10.30 am. and at the same time on Wednesdays. Just wear flat shoes and other equipment and assistance will be provided for what is always a very friendly and sociable occasion.
