Memorial Post Box
Snodland Town Council have recently installed a ‘Letters to Heaven’ post box at Snodland Cemetery, an idea which was suggested to us by a local resident.
A ‘Letter to Heaven’ is a heartfelt message written by someone who has lost a loved one.
It is a way that you can express feelings, memories and thoughts to those that have passed.
What happens to the letters?
Every letter or card posted into the memorial post box will be treated with the utmost respect and confidentiality. They will be removed securely and never opened or read.
We will be using an innovative and eco-friendly method; we are able to turn the letters into compost which will then be used in our memorial areas within the Cemetery.
Whilst it is understandable that we are unable to keep the letters indefinitely, our thoughtful and sensitive process ensures that they never leave the Cemetery, and the burial of the letters will help enhance the ecosystem of our beautiful grounds for all to enjoy.
Coping with grief
Snodland Town Council hope that posting a letter to your loved one in our memorial post box will bring you comfort each time you visit.
There are additional resources available from other organisations which support the bereaved:
Samaritans – www.samaritans.org or call 116 123
SANDS – www.sands.org.uk or call 0808 164 3332
CRUSE – www.cruse.org.uk or call 0808 808 1677
Post Box
The post box is not owned or serviced by Royal Mail, so no address or stamp is needed on any messages to loved ones.
We decided as a Council to purchase this type of post box in honour of her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, as it would have marked the Queen’s 100th birthday, offering a meaningful opportunity to reflect on her extraordinary life and service to our Country.
