A person is eligible to be co-opted if they meet the standard Councillor qualification criteria and are not legally disqualified. Qualifications generally include being over 18 and a qualifying citizen of the Commonwealth, the European Community, or the Republic of Ireland. There are legal disqualifications under section 80 of the 1972 Act.
