What We Do

Stockton Parish Council is responsible for providing and maintaining local services and amenities, representing their community's views, and improving the quality of life for residents. 

Local services and amenities

  • Public areas: Maintaining public open spaces, play areas, and reporting issues with footpaths.
  • Street furniture: Installing and maintaining bins and benches etc.

Community representation and engagement

  • Consultation: Providing a voice for the community on issues like planning and influencing local policy. 
  • Local groups:  Supporting local groups and initiatives, such as a teenagers' club or a summer festival. 
  • Crime prevention: Working with the police and other authorities on crime prevention in the parish. 

Local governance and planning

  • Planning applications: Reviewing and providing comments on planning applications submitted in their area. 
  • Influencing other bodies: Negotiating with other organizations and influencing decisions made by larger local authorities e.g. the Wiltshire Local Plan, Witlshire and Swindon Local Nature Recovery Strategy. 
  • Financial management: Raising funds through a local precept (a charge on the council tax) to deliver services and ensure best value for money.
