Chairman's Update - September 2025
Tendring Parish Council
By the time you read this the nights will have drawn in and we will be in the throes of Autumn. The vibrant colours of the leaves await us and the cosy evenings in front of a roaring fire but there again we may have an Indian Summer-who knows.
As the dark evenings arrive we have for your entertainment a production – join Edwyrdian tales for an evening of dark delights on their second national tour of ghostly tales of dread. I saw Matthew Wood perform last year and he was amazing so I thought I would bring it to Tendring for your enjoyment. There will be a bar serving drinks both before and after the show for those of you who will need some dutch courage to go home alone! All profits will go to local causes.
The performance will take place in the Village Hall on 15th November at 7.30pm. If you have difficulty accessing the link let me know and I can do it for you. It would be best to book ahead as this is advertised nationally and many of his performances are sold out.
Last month saw the Parish Council meeting just to discuss some planning applications that came in. Application 25/01065 was for a change of use to leisure use and the construction of two holiday lodges at Firs Lake Land off Heath road. It was decided to call this application into the Planning Committee as we had concerns about it constituting 'backland development' which would go against the linear characteristic of the Village as well as limited access, sewage treatment issues and the detrimental effects on the neighbours.
The second application 25/01180 was for a single storey rear extension with replacement roof and first floor rear terrace along with enclosure of porch and cladding to front elevation at Churchfields on The Street. We made an observation about the loss of privacy to a neighbouring garden and asked that it be considered in the planning process.
Application 25/01221 asked us to consider allowing a temporary building to be converted into a dwelling house at Gooses Farm on Parsonage Lane. There were concerns voiced about the entrance being too narrow to allow emergency vehicles and that it constituted 'backland development'. With these considerations the Council could not agree to this application.
Application 25/01030 applied for consent to replace two front windows for Church Cottage on The Street. After taking into consideration the historical importance of this building we agreed to give this application our approval as we felt that it would improve the street view alongside St Edmund's Church.
Finally an application from Rosier on Crown Lane to change of use from a retail shop to a wedding venue was considered for some time. The result of which was that it was a favourable development as there was a reduction in traffic ,it would offer employment opportunities and with appropriate restrictions on noise pollution it would not impinge on neighbouring properties.
I have been called to an Extraordinary Meeting of Tendring Local Councils by the Head of Tendring District Council this week. The deadline for this article will have passed before I attend. Therefore I will report back to you next month.
