Get involved

We are looking for local people to help with the following for our project:

·       Provide history of Buildwas Church – particularly if they have a family connection. The families that are mentioned the most often in the church records are Hulett and Hewlett; Mivart and Myvart; Poyner; Smitheman; and Steventon, amongst others. Perhaps you have some information that can help us? Or know someone local with one of those surnames?

·       Funding – do you know of any local people / companies that could support our fundraising efforts?

·       Genealogical research – including delving deeper into our church records and following up birth / death / marriage / christening records etc. and looking at the lives of the people who used the church in the past, and who are buried here

·       Bell ringing – we have 3 bells in the church tower that we’d like to ring regularly – do we have any local campanologists?

·       Gardening – we plan to tidy up the graveyard and plant borders – can anyone or any local group / company help with this?

·       Local schools and community groups – who would like to use our church as a resource for e.g. history lessons or musical productions (we have great acoustics!)

·       Video / media producers / website designers – we would like to produce a DVD and website to record our findings for the general public to view

·       Volunteers – to give guided walks / talks around the church and graveyard once the project is completed

You don’t have to be an expert to help! The idea of the project is to increase people’s skills, so if you’ve ever been interested in taking part in a conservation project or researching your family history, please get in touch!
