The current building for Buildwas Holy Trinity Church dates from 1720 and replaced a medieval church. We celebrated our church tricentenary in 2020.

We wish to keep our church open for the use of the local community for future generations, as it has been at the heart of our village for centuries; and also share the heritage of our church, as it has an interesting history with close ties to Buildwas Abbey (which it used to belong to); and also to families who lived in Ironbridge and Coalbrookdale (where the Industrial Revolution started). You can find out more about our history on our virtual tour on the Geotourist website here (click on the 'Explore At Home' button to start the tour).

We have therefore launched our Buildwas Church 300 Restoration Project and formed the Buildwas Community "Save our Church" Group to organise activities to raise money for the restoration of Buildwas Church, for two reasons:

• Fundraising is required to pay for the Parish Share just to keep the church open and running. The Parish Share pays for the mission and ministry in churches in the Lichfield Diocese including Buildwas i.e. the costs to employ members of the clergy to run regular services and give spiritual leadership to the local community.

• Grants are required for the renovation of the church tower, gravestones and other items in the graveyard, repairs to the roof, renovation inside etc. and also the installation of a tea point and toilet, and a new heating system. This will cost a total of ~£100k, with the restoration of the church tower alone costing ~£60k. We need to raise money towards these in order to secure the grants. The tower restoration is urgent, as the holes in the tower are letting in rain which is damaging the west end of the church, and preventing us from heating the church in the winter, which means we now have hold services in our village hall, which has increased our church running costs.
